We’re thrilled to introduce the newest members of our orangutan adoption programme: Onyer and Iqo, two bright young learners at Nyaru Menteng whose resilience, curiosity, and growing confidence make them unforgettable. By adopting one of these incredible individuals, you become a real part of their journey back to the wild while supporting the ongoing care of hundreds of orangutans just like them.

Onyer
Meet Onyer: The Playful, Mud-Covered Adventurer (Age 5)
Rescued at just 10 months old, Onyer began his rehabilitation as a nervous, unsure youngster. Today, he’s one of the most dedicated students in Forest School, and the one most likely to show up covered head-to-toe in mud.
Onyer spends nearly every day exploring the forest with his best friends Jeni and Aiko, who are similar in size and energy. Together, they climb trees, practice nest-building, swing from branches, and sometimes get into a little mischief. (Onyer is known to sneak fruit from the lanjung basket when he thinks no one’s watching.)
What makes Onyer truly special is his gentle nature. He enjoys the company of others, welcomes young orangutans from different groups, and brings excitement wherever he goes. His confidence has blossomed over the years, transforming him from a timid infant into a curious, social, and lively young orangutan with a big personality.
When you adopt Onyer, you’ll receive quarterly updates, photos, and a special annual video, all sharing his milestones, mischief, friendships, and the skills he’s learning as he prepares for life in the wild. Your support helps him keep growing stronger, braver, and more independent every day.
ADOPT ONYER

Iqo
Meet Iqo: The Graceful, Independent Teacher-In-Training (Age 3)
At just 12 months old, Iqo arrived exhausted, dehydrated, and malnourished after being illegally kept as a pet. Once she gained strength, her natural curiosity took over, and she has been thriving ever since.
Iqo is known for her independence and her love of exploring high up in the canopy. Even snack time can’t keep her on the ground; she grabs her food and climbs straight back into the treetops to enjoy it.
She has also become a nurturing presence in Forest School. Her best friend, Rumba, a younger orangutan, often clings to Iqo for comfort. Iqo gently encourages her to climb, explore, and even build nests – skills vital for survival in the wild. Her growing confidence has made her agile, clever, and quick to master new behaviors.
Adopt Iqo and you’ll receive quarterly updates, photos, and a unique annual video, giving you a front-row seat to her progress, personality, and transformation. Your support provides the ongoing care and enrichment she needs to continue becoming the strong, wild orangutan she was meant to be.
ADOPT IQO
Every orangutan in our care is on a long, challenging journey; from rescue, to recovery, to forest school, and one day, to the wild. By adopting Onyer or Iqo, you help fund their food, medical treatments, enrichment, forest school training, and the dedicated teams that support them.
You’re not just symbolically adopting an orangutan, you’re changing the course of their life.
Will you help us rescue, rehabilitate and release orangutans back to freedom? Thank you for helping us save orangutans!
